mourner Although I listened to both versions of Vom schwarzen Schmied multiple times I can not tell you which one I love best. Both are exceptionally well done releases and while this version is more aggressive Berggesænge is more epic and rousing. Give both a try! Favorite track: Der Bergschmied VIII: Sargdeckel.

David Fischer Black metal is my life elixir, as long as it doesn't have anything to do with right-wing bs. I hardly care about many lyrical concepts, but Dauþuz implement theirs in the music so very well that one cannot ignore it. Vom Schwarzen Schmied is melodic, majestical - but not afraid at all to get its hands dirty. This is ironclad music right from the depths of the mountain, the mineworker's heartbeat everpresent in the impelling rhythmic sections of each song. What a great, conceptual piece of art. Favorite track: Der Bergschmied VIII: Sargdeckel.

bcb723 When the first synth note hits and moves into the intro of Track 1 you get a sense of scope Dauþuz is creating on "Vom schwarzen Schmied." Like they are building some kind of huge monument of sound with these massive songs. Great vocals mesh with the melodic guitars, which are mixed right up front and carry these huge songs to an elevated level. This one will take a few spins for the complexities (and surprises) to come together but stick with it. Such a heavy release. Favorite track: Der Bergschmied II: Der Eid.

H.L. I am from and live in a popular former mining area, so it is no surprise that I have a faible for mining black metal. Besides the lyrical concept, Dauþuz also play a quite original style of melodic underground black metal: Anthemic, rumbling like a horde of dwarves, with sharp guitars and very lively, I would describe it as "hysterical heroism". Check "Der Eid". Favorite track: Der Bergschmied II: Der Eid.

The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity.
